Sakyamuni Buddha; ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ།; 释迦牟尼佛
Sakyamuni Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama or simply the Buddha, is the historical founder of Buddhism. He was born around the 5th to 6th century BCE in Lumbini, which is in present-day Nepal, as a prince of the Shakya clan.
After renouncing his royal life in search of spiritual understanding, Siddhartha practised meditation and asceticism. Eventually, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India, and came to be known as "Sakyamuni," meaning "Sage of the Shakyas."
The teachings of Sakyamuni Buddha form the foundation of Buddhism, emphasising the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path as means to overcome suffering and achieve liberation (nirvana). He is revered as a symbol of wisdom, compassion, and inner peace.
